Making Music at Marty B's

I woke up Monday morning and checked my Facebook notifications; a few friend requests, some photo likes, and then something that made me grin from ear to ear.  The venue we played at Saturday night, Marty B's, had posted a picture of our show while expressing their gratitude for a great weekend.  Thank you to everyone at  Marty B's!

Let me tell you a bit about Marty's.  It is a huge restaurant and bar with and enormous patio, upstairs rooftop seating, private cabanas, yard games, amazing food, and a welcoming staff that is always friendly.  Most importantly, there is a stage, and a continuing effort to promote live music.  I have performed there with several bands, and even as our CRUSH duo - but this was the first time taking our full band in and we spent a lot of time promoting our show and tailoring our setlist to the crowd we knew would be there.

The night was a huge success!  There wasn't an empty seat anywhere on the patio, the dance floor stayed packed from the first song to the last, and we made lots of new friends as well as having time to reconnect with old ones.  Marty's is family friendly and there were lots of kids dancing too, so it was important our setlist would appeal to them as well as kids are always the driving the force when they are in the building.  We have been undergoing a shift in what our formula is for music, and our setlist consists of 90% upbeat dance songs, most of which are 2000 and newer.  In fact we only played four songs released before 1990 - with ten of our songs currently in today's top 40.

The formula was a success!  Kids, parents, singles, men, women all packed the dance floor all night dancing, laughing, taking pictures, and having fun!  We even packed the stage with kids at one point and had them all sing some Lizzo with us - the family friendly version of course!  Several large parties were celebrating birthdays, and we enjoyed engaging and celebrating with them too!  Overall, what a fabulous weekend!  Thank you Marty, and thanks to everyone who came out!

Crushin' Memphis on a Tuesday!

It was a cold and rainy Tuesday night in Dallas, one that typically strikes fear in the hearts of bands and venue owners when it comes to attendance; however, it was warm and full of high spirited people at Memphis Nightclub in Addison when we took the stage.  We have made it a point to use social media, direct contact, and other methods of communication to invite people we know are interested and able to attend our events instead of just blanketing an area or people who have no intention of coming out.  The tables were full and the dance floor was rocking all night long as we celebrated with friends old and new, sharing in a birthday with Tammy, and also having special guests Dave Barnett, Mitch Spencer, Erica Cook, Don "BigD" Bass, and several others sit in with us.

We have made a decision to move into 2020 with a completely new setlist featuring mostly songs from 2000 and newer, reaching back into the 90's for a few big hits.  Of course we can play hits from any decade when requested, but our primary shows are focused on getting people on the dance floor and spending more time and money in the clubs by playing top 40 hits that are current, and that many bands are not covering right now.  Tuesday night reconfirmed that decision for us as the dance floor and club remained busy all the way to close at 2am!

A lot of our setlist has been determined by all the work we are doing in our all request duo and dueling piano plus shows, as those requests as telling us what people want to hear and what is getting them on the dance floor.  We have been surprised by some songs that we would probably have not considered without these requests and how well they are working in the club and at private parties.

We are continuing to add great new songs every week, with tunes by Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Harry Styles, Cardi B, and more being added for our next full band show coming up at Marty B.s on February 1st.  Until then our duo is playing at some amazing venues including the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo and some big corporate parties including the yearly corporate party for Raising Cane's.  As always you can follow our calendar here on our website or on Facebook.  See you at our next show!
